Carlos Santiago President & CEO

Carlos Santiago is a corporate strategist nationally recognized for his successful direct response, CRM and ROI analytics. NPR, Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Miami Herald, Advertising Age, and BBC have highlighted his leadership in multicultural business strategies. He has created multicultural P&L business units, new products and brands across many categories. His discipline is based on hands-on management of "back-end" internal infrastructures, customer touch points, data intelligence and 360º integrated targeting.

In 2000, Santiago co-founded Santiago Solutions Group, previously Santiago & Valdés Solutions, the first business strategy consulting group advising growth oriented companies on how to maximize profits from the US multicultural markets. Santiago has retooled multicultural strategies for clients such as AARP, HP, Leap Wireless, AT&T Wireless, Tweeter Home Entertainment Group, Terra Lycos, San Diego Union Tribune, Herbalife and PSEG, among others.

Prior to that, as the youngest VP at Verizon, Santiago headed and transformed their segmentation strategy, competitive response, ethnic marketing and 1500 people multi-lingual sales channels and customer care divisions. He has also led African American, Hispanic, and Asian efforts at EthnicGrocer.com, Pacific Bell and Anheuser-Busch.

Among other recognitions, Santiago received Bell Atlantic's Chairman's Baldridge Award for Total Quality , was named one of Crain's "Top 40 under 40", and was lauded a "leading expert" in Hispanic marketing by CNBC. He has served in the Advisory Board of Banco Popular USA, as Director in the United Way of NY, as Chairman of the Hispanic Federation and currently advises leading national organizations such as HACR and AHAA. Santiago is a frequent speaker at multicultural conferences and most recently, Santiago was tapped as one of AHAA's "G-10", a select group of leaders including Henry Cisneros, developing the first industry initiative to educate Fortune 100 CEO's on Hispanic Business strategies.

Having a U.S. banking account can do more than just save Hispanics money -- it provides the financial foundation needed to get credit cards, auto loans and home mortgages, said Carlos Santiago, co-chairman of Santiago and Valdes Solutions, a minority consulting firm in San Francisco.

"This has always been a cash rich, credit poor segment of society," Santiago said. "Having a banking relationship can help give them the credibility to change that."

The demographics are a powerful magnet. The U.S. Hispanic population increased by 61 percent between 1990 and 2000, ballooning from 21.9 million to 35.3 million, according to the U.S. Census.

Although many U.S. Hispanics are poor, the group is gaining financial clout.

Hispanics' disposable income rose from $530 billion last year to a projected $600 billion this year, according to Santiago and Valdes Solutions.

Most demographers expect such growth to be robust for several decades. California's Hispanic residents, already nearly one-third of the state's population, is projected to outnumber whites sometime in the next 20 to 30 years.
